The mission of the Craft Beer Forum of Oklahoma is to educate students and the public about the quality, flavor and diversity of craft beer; acknowledge and celebrate the independent and innovative culture of Oklahoma-connected craft brewers; promote the responsible enjoyment of beer; and increase the recognition of the Oklahoma State University School of Hospitality and Tourism Management as a leader in hospitality education.
The Craft Beer Forum of Oklahoma will host its inaugural event April 7, 2018. The Wine Forum of Oklahoma began in 2009 as an idea conceived by Marilynn and Carl Thoma. New ideas have been incorporated to tweak and improve each successive Wine Forum. One of these ideas was to begin a craft beer forum on the opposite year of the Wine Forum due to the strong interest and natural fit for Oklahoma. We are happy to take this idea and turn it into a reality for our students.
Eric Marshall, founder of Marshall Brewing in Tulsa, Oklahoma, served as the inaugural honorary chair of the Craft Beer Forum of Oklahoma. This initial event saw 23 local, regional, and national breweries gather in the North Wing of the Human Sciences Building to salute the 98 students who put on the spectacular show that is the Craft Beer Forum of Oklahoma. Chris White from White Labs and Bob Van Mechlen of Chimay Brewery served as Keynote Speakers along with Craft Beer pioneers Elliot Nelson (McNellie’s Group) and Eric Marshall on an unforgettable panel. Other notable highlights included sessions on Spontaneous Fermentation, Craft Beer Mixology, International Beer Styles, Cheese and Beer Pairings, Cooking with Craft Beer, Hop Talk, Detecting Beer Faults, and an introductory session for those getting their feet wet in the world of Craft Beer!
